SUN: I'm sorry.
(Michael climbs down. He barely glances at her.)
MICHAEL: Don't worry. I stuck my nose where it didn't belong. It's on me.
SUN: You must understand ...
MICHAEL: (interrupts) Look, all understand is that I got to get this raft
finished so I can get my boy out of here and take him home.
SUN: When I slapped you, I was protecting you.
MICHAEL: Oh, yeah? From what?

(Hurley walks up to Jin. He's carrying a couple of fishing poles. Jin looks at
Hurley.)
(Jin hits the third rock.)
HURLEY: Hey. So listen, I know things got kind of nasty down there at the
beach, and, um, I don't want to get involved in husband-and-wife stuff, but I
figured, you know, you might need to relax.
(Jin swings and hits a fourth rock.)
HURLEY: So ...
(Hurley shows Jin the two fishing poles, one in each hand. Jin turns and looks
at Hurley. He's quiet for a moment, then goes to the next rock.)

(Sayid steps closer to look at it.)
SAYID: Do you have a past in the Navy you've neglected to tell me about?
SHANNON: (chuckles) Why?
SAYID: How does a woman like you learn how to tie a perfect bolin knot?
SHANNON: By dating guys with sailboats.
(Sayid looks at her, surprised. Shannon grins at him.)
SAYID: Since you bring it up, I've been worried since I first met you that you
might end up being a spinster.
SHANNON: Spending my Saturday nights alone at home ... tying knots?
SAYID: Perhaps with an overweight aunt. (Shannon laughs.) It's a very sad
image.
SHANNON: Maybe we should get some rope, spend a Saturday night alone together,
and see what happens.
(They share a look.)

[EXT. BEACH - BOAT AREA -- DAY]
(Walt walks past Vincent. He's carrying some wire and heads for Michael.)
WALT: Dad?
MICHAEL: Thanks.
(Michael takes the wire from him. Walt climbs aboard.)
MICHAEL: You are going to love New York, Walt. No city like it. And what I
really want to show you in New York are the buildings, the architecture.
WALT: Buildings?
MICHAEL: Yeah, I used to say that, too, till I saw the Flat Iron Building.
WALT: What's that?
MICHAEL: Oldest skyscraper in the city. Built in 1902. And it's flat. That
one building inspired me to start drawing and, you know, designing things.
WALT: Why?
MICHAEL: You just gotta see it, man. You want to see it, right?
WALT: I guess. Can I go throw the ball to Vincent?
MICHAEL: Yeah. Sure. Of course.
(Walt jumps down off the boat and runs across the sand.)
WALT: Come on, Vincent!
(Vincent gets up and runs across the sand following Walt. Jack walks over
toward Michael and the boat.)
JACK: Wow, you're making a lot of progress.
MICHAEL: Yeah, trying.
JACK: It's pretty cool.
(Michael shows off his raft.)
MICHAEL: Got this bamboo for the decking, got a piece of the fuselage for a
cabin. Some storage bins ...
(Michael steps down and walks around the raft. He stops in front of Jack.)
MICHAEL: What's up?
JACK: I thought I'd give you the heads-up.
MICHAEL: Yeah?
JACK: Yeah, there's a lot of talk going on about who's going on this thing with
you.
MICHAEL: Hey, man ... (Michael jumps back onto the boat.) ... it not the Queen
Mary. I only got room for four people. There's one open spot.
JACK: Who took the other one?
SAWYER: (o.s.) What's the matter, doc?
(Jack turns. Sawyer walks up to join them.)
SAWYER: Feeling left out?
JACK: You're taking Sawyer with you?
(Jack shakes his head.)
SAWYER: Yep. Bought myself a ticket on this little tub. Let me tell you. (He
turns and looks at Michael.) The fare was steep.
(He tosses a roll of cable to Michael who catches it.)
SAWYER: Could have used that cable to hold up the whole east wing of my new
beach house.
JACK: (to Michael) You sold him a spot?
MICHAEL: I needed a halyard to the mast.
SAWYER: (smirks) Good thing I'm a Saver, not a Spender, huh, Doc?

KATE: Yeah, a husband you're afraid to tell you speak english. I'm trying to
understand, Sun.
SUN: He wasn't always like this. He used to tell me how beautiful I looked to
him. He was so tender. And then he was different.
KATE: What changed him?
(Someone runs past the tenting.)
(Kate continues to wait for Sun's answer.)

KATE: She was with me!
(Walt watches Michael. Suddenly, he bolts toward the boat and starts throwing
sand on it with the others.)
MICHAEL: Walt! No, Walt!

SAWYER: (shouts) Are you serious?!
JACK: Sawyer, shut up!
CHARLIE: Jack, come on, we saw him on the beach this morning!

(The burning fire wood crackles. Boone stands on the other side of the fire
staring at the flames. He puts the thick stick in his hand aside. Sayid walks
up to Boone as he adds another log to the fire.)
BOONE: What do you want?
SAYID: I'd like to talk to you about Shannon. (Boone pokes at the fire with
the stick. He doesn't turn around to look at Sayid.) It's very possible your
sister and I are going to become more than just friends.
BOONE: What is this?
(Boone reaches for another log.)
BOONE: Some Middle Eastern thing? You want my blessing or something?
SAYID: My hope is you won't object.
BOONE: Yeah?
(Boone glances back at Sayid before turning back to tending the fire.)
SAYID: I was extending a courtesy, not asking your permission.
(Sayid turns and starts to walk away.)
BOONE: Let me tell you about my sister. She likes older men -- guys that can
take care of her. My guess is in this place you fit the bill. She'll make you
feel like the greatest guy ever while you get her food, whatever it is she
needs, and once she gets what she wants, she'll move on. When she does, don't
take it personally, man.
(Camera holds on Sayid.)

completely destroying it.
(Sayid gets up on the plank and helps her.)
SAYID: You seem to be doing just fine.
SHANNON: Yeah, fine at making it collapse.
SAYID: You're very capable, Shannon. I'm sure you'd be all right building it
on your own.
SHANNON: What's going on?
SAYID: Perhaps you should find another friend to help you with your shelter.
SHANNON: (hurt) You've been talking to my brother, haven't you?
(Shannon storms off. Sayid watches her leave.)

LOCKE: Don't know.
SHANNON: What do you mean, you don't know? You two are like jungle pals.
LOCKE: Sorry. I haven't seen him.
SHANNON: Well, if you do see him, tell him to keep his stupid mouth shut, and
if he has something say, he can leave Sayid out of it and come say it to my
face.
LOCKE: (interrupts) Should I be writing this down?
SHANNON: Just -- just tell him to stay the hell out of my business.
(Shannon turns and leaves. Locke stops her.)
LOCKE: Do you like him?
SHANNON: What?
LOCKE: Sayid.
SHANNON: Are you serious?
LOCKE: Because if you do ... like him, what's it got to do with your brother?
(He looks at Shannon.) You're a grown woman. Sure, you can yell at Boone till
you're blue in the face, but all you're doing is giving him what he wants.
(Locke turns back to his rat.)
SHANNON: Yeah, what's that?
LOCKE: Your attention. Everyone gets a new life on this land, Shannon. Maybe

JACK: Calm down and think about it for a minute.
MICHAEL: Look at his hands, man.

(Jack doesn't like it, but he stays out of it.)

(Charlie steps forward.)
CHARLIE: You speak English?
HURLEY: Didn't see that coming.
JACK: You understood us all this time? Why didn't you say anything?
(Ignoring them all, Sun steps toward Michael.)
SUN: (to Michael) Your raft was already on fire when he arrived. He burned
his hands trying to put it out.
MICHAEL: Then why did he run?
(Sun is quiet. He speaks to Jin.)
SUN: (in Korean) (unsubtitled) (talks)
(Jin, still stunned by his wife's ability to speak English, doesn't answer her.)
(Taking his silence for guilt, Michael scoffs.)
MICHAEL: Exactly. That's what I thought.
SUN: My husband is many things, but he is not a liar.
SAWYER: You're gonna lecture us about lying, Betty? From the look on his face,
even your old man here didn't know you speak English. How do we know she's not
covering for him?
LOCKE: (shouts) Because she isn't!
(Locke walks toward the group. Everyone stops and gives Locke their attention.)
LOCKE: Why would he burn the raft?
MICHAEL: He's been after me since day one! Everybody knows it!
LOCKE: (interrupts) Okay, it's personal. But why take it out on our best
chance at getting off the island? Why would any one of us block an attempt to
get home? We're so intent on pointing the finger at one another that we're
ignoring the simple undeniable truth that the problem isn't here, it's there!
(He points back to the island.)
LOCKE: They've attacked us! Sabotaged us, abducted us, murdered us. Maybe
it's time we stop blaming us and started worrying about them!
(Locke starts walking away from them. He turns around.)
LOCKE: We're not the only people on this island, and we all know it!
(Disgusted, Locke turns and leaves, disappearing back into the jungle.)
(Jack looks around. Michael turns and looks at Sun.)
SUN: (emphatically) He did not do it.
(Michael turns and leaves. He pulls Walt along behind him.)
(The group slowly disburses. Hurley, Charlie, Kate, Sawyer - they all start

fire burnt up all the twine! Damn it!
(Michael picks up a rod and smashes it at the burned boat with all his might,
punctuating his anger and frustration.)
(Walt takes a step backward as he watches his dad.)
MICHAEL: Damn it! God ...
(Michael looks up and sees Walt. He stops and tosses the rod aside. Michael
looks away trying to get his anger under control.)
MICHAEL: I'm sorry, man.
WALT: It's okay.
MICHAEL: No. Come here. Come here.
(Michael walks over to Walt as Walt walks over to Michael.)
MICHAEL: Come here. Look ... we all have setbacks. I mean, God knows, man.
That's just life. We'll start over, all right?
WALT: You're gonna build another one?
MICHAEL: Yeah. A better one.
WALT: Can I help?
MICHAEL: No doubt you can help. (They knock knuckles together as Michael
chuckles.) Come on!
(Walt smiles.)

my mind. You made me think that you still loved me.
